3 Considerations for a Smile Makeover

Team Cosmetic Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry, Smile Makeover

A smile makeover allows us to dramatically transform your smile with a combination of dental treatments that address all of your aesthetic concerns. Typically, a smile makeover involves a few visits to our office because two or more procedures are involved, but the results are worth it—patients who get smile makeovers feel a renewed sense of confidence that greatly improves their quality of life.

When planning a smile makeover, we take many factors into consideration. Here are some of the most important.

Your Oral Health

While smile makeovers are generally thought of as cosmetic dentistry, they often involve restorative procedures too—like cosmetic procedures, restorative dentistry improves the appearance of your smile, but it also restores function and strength to damaged or decayed teeth.

Our first goal in a smile makeover is to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy. If you have active gum disease, we treat it. If you have cavities, we take care of them. We use restorative treatments to ensure that your smile won’t just be beautiful, but that your teeth will also be strong and function as they should. Then, we address your remaining concerns with cosmetic dental treatments.

Your Budget

Any restorative dental work you need will likely be at least partially covered by your dental insurance, but because cosmetic dentistry doesn’t improve the function or strength of your teeth, it is not covered by insurance plans. With this in mind, we work carefully to plan a treatment that fits into your budget.

Although we offer financing options to make smile makeovers affordable to all of our patients, we know that some prefer to keep the costs down, even if it means choosing a treatment option that doesn’t last as long or produce the same level of results. For example, if you have a chipped tooth, a dental veneer will last decades; dental bonding can repair it too at a much lower price, but bonding typically only lasts a few years. We’ll always be upfront with you and present options for you to choose from.

Your Unique Needs

Once you’ve committed to moving forward with your smile makeover, we begin planning your new smile. While some patients come to us with pictures of celebrity smiles and specific ideas in mind of what they want, we have to take your unique needs into consideration—what looks good on someone else might not look good on you!

If you’ve seen someone with noticeable veneers or dentures, it’s usually because their dentist took a cookie-cutter approach to design. At Bella Dental, we create beautiful smiles by designing them based on your individual facial features. In order to create natural results, we look at the size of your mouth, the shape of your natural teeth, and even your skin tone.
